Big 12 Football Features the No. 1 Cornerback Prospect in the Recruiting Class of 2011
It hasn’t take long for Texas Longhorns coaches to realize just how good a prospect incoming freshman corner Quandre Diggs really is.
Beyond his heritage, which has him playing at Texas in the footsteps of his brother Quentin Jammer and cousin Cedric Woodard, he has instantly impressed thus far in the spring.
Via the American-Statesman:
“He just has a knack,” said Manny Diaz, the Longhorns’ defensive coordinator. “Some guys you have to draw them a map. He understands what it takes to play back there.”
Ranked as the No. 1 cornerback prospect in the country by ESPNU for the recruiting class of 2011, Diggs has already shown his ability to break up passes, tackle with a Longhorns-type physicality, and, more importantly, understand the way the game is played.
Not surprising given he has grown up going to his brother Quentin’s camps with the San Diego Chargers.
Diggs has a chance to grab the starting spot voided by former Longhorns top corner Aaron Williams this season, Williams declaring for the 2011 NFL Draft in a move that could see him being selected as the fourth or fifth corner.
Beyond that, corners Curtis Brown and Chykie Brown are no longer with the team.
But Diggs has some competition, in the form of three sophomores and four freshman.
But, given what he’s exhibited so far, it may not matter how many defensive backs the Longhorns bring in.
The next Aaron Williams?
The No. 1 corner prospect in the nation, Diggs has the chance to be better.
