Early in the first quarter, Haloti Ngata saw an opening, and made a huge sack on Pittsburgh Steelers starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
In the process of sacking him, Ngata’s arm flew in for a blow to the head that broke Roethlisberger’s nose. Ngata absolutely destroyed Roethlisberger’s nose, as it was visibly moved to both sides of his face and blood was pouring out of it.
But the refs decided that wasn’t worth a penalty flag, and play continued.
Don’t try and tell me that same play on Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, or Mark Sanchez wouldn’t have resulted in a flag, because we all know it would.
Ngati should be facing a severe fine from the league for that hit, but with the Steelers, you never know. The Steelers have spent so much time telling the league where to go, they’re not getting the benefit of the doubt for any of their hits, and the other team does.
It’s hard to feel bad for the Steelers because of the stance they’ve taken, but in the sense of fairness, you have to stand up here and say, “C’mon, Man!!”
If the league is going to crack down, they have to be consistent. While the Steelers may be “asking for it” by continually challenging NFL Commisioner Roger Goodell, the league front office may want to try a little harder to be consistent.
