It seems nowadays whenever a player is unhappy, the first place that people speculate toward is Seattle.

We’ve seen it with Terrell Owens, we’ve seen it with LaDainian Tomlinson, heck we’ve even seen it with Darren Sharper back when he was unsigned by the New Orleans Saints earlier this offseason, and for the most part, none of these big name players have shown the slightest amount of interest in signing with the Seahawks.

But why is it that Seattle has become the first name to pop into people’s heads like a jack in the box constantly being wound up to the same old tune?

Well, perhaps it is due partially to Seattle being a young organization, and with new head coach Pete Carroll, most fans believe that just about anything is possible for the Seahawks right now.

However, just when I thought that we’d heard enough debate about possible Seahawk signings, it appears the freight train has once again taken an unexpected turn and added another name to its list.

Yes, Albert Haynesworth is the newest unhappy player that people have decided to link to the Seattle Seahawks. 

Haynesworth, who is now unhappy with his current team the Washington Redskins due to contract issues, and a rather unimpressive attempt to boycott Washington’s new coaching staff, is now looking for a new team to call home.

In recent weeks, Haynesworth has been linked to several teams including the likes of Chicago, Carolina, Detroit and St. Louis, but has failed to show any real interest in either one of these so called “needy” teams.

Perhaps this is due to Albert Haynesworth’s stubborn attitude, as he still seems to disregard just about everybody right now in football.

But the Seattle Seahawks, are they really a possible landing spot for this controversial player?

I know it seems rather absurd, but aside from Albert’s controversial ways, he could very well benefit Seattle immensely in 2010.

In 2009, Albert Haynesworth’s stats were impressive, but also a little concerning.  He recorded a total of 4 sacks, while at the same time only played in 12 total games.  Therefore, although Albert isn’t an old player, a question of consistency does arise for any team thinking of signing him.

Still, for the Seattle Seahawks Albert Haynesworth is an option.  The Seattle defense notably struggled last season to maintain composure, and failed to limit some of the league’s top passing games to under three touchdowns.

At the end of 2009, the Seahawks ranked 24th in total defense league wide, and when it comes to eradicating this problem, perhaps an explosive defensive tackle such as Albert Haynesworth is a suitable option.

The positives that Albert brings to Seattle are simple.  One, he brings leadership to a young team that is sure to be in need of some motivation both offensively and defensively.

Two, he simply is a real talent to behold.  All 350 pounds of Albert Haynesworth are normally used quite effectively, and his ability to push past offensive lineman and record a sack is definitely what Seattle has been lacking in recent years.

The other point worth making is Albert’s need of some discipline.  I think you’ll agree that Hanyesworth is a little off the rails right now, and if he did enter a program run by none other than Pete Carroll, it may be a great recipe of experience and dedication to get Albert’s career back on track.

But what about the negatives?  I hear you ask.  Well it’s simple.  With Albert Haynesworth comes a ton of questioning.  I won’t go as far as saying that Haynesworth is in the same category as Terrell Owens when it comes to controversy, but he has made a name for himself due to his outspoken ways.

Therefore, this could hurt the Seahawks immensely.  Their team is now back on track, and they have the right mix of talent and experince to finally start a succesful rebuilding process. 

Adding a player like Albert Haynesworth may seem promising, however it could go south quickly, and leave Seattle with more than they can chew.

Whatever your opinion is of all this, it probably doesn’t mean a whole lot right now.  Albert is yet to express interest in any team, and is still fighting off the Washington Redskins who firmly believe that Albert will come to his senses and return back to the Redskins.

Is Seattle on the cards for Big Al?

It is a very distinct possibility, but for now we’ll have to wait and see.  I have a feeling that Albert will only direct his ship one way or another, when he feels happy to do so.
