On Tuesday, Badger head coach Bret Bielema confirmed that Phillips suffered an ACL tear in his right knee during a scrimmage on Saturday.

Because Phillips has already redshirted, he isn't able to receive a medical redshirt next year and would only be eligible for one if he suffered another significant injury in the future.

After showing some promise in limited playing time last season, Phillips was expected see mop-up duty in 2010 in preparation for taking the reigns in 2011.
