1. The special teams need to be ready
The game's momentum flipped faster than the time it would take for Lou Holtz to make a Notre Dame plug, as Oregon's Kenjon Barner returned the second half kick-off 100 yards to give the Ducks a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
This was one more reminder of the way special teams can affect a game, particularly Cal's much-maligned unit, which gave up a killer punt return score against USC...
