Surgery had been considered for some time and apparently won out over resting it for a few more weeks.

The 2008 Heisman winner originally hurt it in the season opener against BYU and fell on it after blitzing linebacker Coleby Clawson made contact with him.

The Sooners went on to lose the game 14-13 without him.
