Last season the defense was porous at best, they attempted to implement a bend but don't break style of play, but it lead to more breaking than bending. While the offense would score points and put the team in a position to win the defense would misplay the opponent and give up the big play.
In 2009, the Spartans defense gave up an average of 380.8 yards per game, which is not conducive to winning football games. They gave up 1,472 rushing yards and 3,479 passing yards last season. This is not how Spartan defense should be called or executed.
