BYU has announced in a press release today that they will leave the Mountain West Conference to go independent in football and but will join the West Coast Conference in every other sport.

BYU will give more details at a press conference scheduled for tomorrow.

This change will become effective the 2011 season.

The Cougars will be sailing into uncertain waters as an independent, but many, including ESPN's Beano Cook, think that BYU is one of the few schools that can pull this off.

No, they won't pull this off as well as Notre Dame does, but BYU nonetheless will be able to pull this off.
