Virginia Tech lost to the Georgia Tech option, Nebraska fell victim to Taylor Potts and Texas tech, and Kansas dropped its first game of the season to a one win Colorado team.

Then there were the near misses that could have made for a real interesting Saturday. Florida needed a late field goal (and some help from the refs) to hold off Bobby Petrino's Razorbacks, Texas needed a comeback to get by rival Oklahoma, and USC stopped playing defense in the fourth, but managed to hold off a charging Notre Dame squad.
