2010 College Football Predictions: Take Georgia Over Mississippi State

Article By on 23rd September, 2010

This Saturday the Georgia Bulldogs will head to Davis Wade Stadium to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in SEC action.

Georgia has won nine straight, but it’s just the third meeting in the last 13 years between these two schools. Both teams will be looking for their first conference win of the season, as both programs come into the game this weekend 0-2 in the SEC.

Looking at the college football lines for this game, the oddsmakers have Mississippi State favored by 1.5 points over Georgia at home.

Georgia (1-2)

The Bulldogs got off to a fast start with a touchdown on their first drive of the game, but it was the only points they could manage in the first half, and wound up trailing 17-7 at halftime.

Things didn’t get any better after the third quarter, as Georgia trailed 24-10 going into the final period of play, but all the sudden Georgia got things rolling and with just under four minutes left in the game it was tied 24-24. Georgia got the ball back with a chance to win, but was unable to get anything going, and after punting the ball to Arkansas, the Razorbacks drove the ball 72 yards in 47 seconds for the win.

In the loss, quarterback Aaron Murray threw for 253 yards and a touchdown, and also added a nice one-yard touchdown run for the Bulldogs first score of the game. Running back Washaun Ealey had a nice game on the ground with 87 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.

Outside of the late-fourth-quarter push, the Bulldogs offense has not looked very good in their first two conference games.

Mississippi St (1-2)

Things didn’t go much better last week for the Bulldogs of Mississippi State, as they got beat up on the road 29-7 by LSU.

The Bulldogs didn’t score until just over eight minutes to go in the third quarter, as Vick Ballard took it in from one yard out. It was the only points the Bulldogs could manage the entire game, as LSU’s defense was outstanding.

Between quarterbacks Chris Relf and Tyler Russell, the Bulldogs threw five interceptions, and finished with just 116 passing yards. On a positive note, the defense did a pretty good job of shutting down LSU when they got close, as they forced the Tigers into a school record five field goals.

Looking at the Odds

I was a little surprised to see that Mississippi State was favored in this game, but it made my decision pretty easy, as I think there is no question you have to take Georgia at plus-1.5 in this game.

The Bulldogs are 5-1 at Mississippi State, with the last win coming in 1951. No question that you have to take Georgia in this one, but if you better act quick, as I think the line could jump the other way before kickoff.

My final score prediction is Georgia 27, Mississippi State 20.
