2011 NFL Draft: Offensive and Defensive Line Vital to New Orleans Saints

Article By on 28th March, 2011

New Orleans Saints Can Find Two Fixes in 2011 NFL Draft

As long as they have Drew Brees, the Saints passing game will be fine for several years to come. And as far as their woeful running game, they can make a move for a veteran like DeAngelo Williams or perhaps one  of the New York Giants backs, restricted free agent Ahmad Bradshaw or trade-bait Brandon Jacobs.

Besides, they have much more pressing needs along the offensive and defensive lines. Apart from Alex Brown’s advancing age, Will Smith is facing some legal problems. Another Ohio State product, Cameron Heyward, would make for a great replacement, but so would Muhammad Wilkerson or Adrian Clayborn if they too are on the board when the Saints select 24th.

In case they think they can fill the void in the second or third round with a player like Allen Bailey, Greg Romeus, Jabaal Sheard, or Christian Ballard, the Saints could turn their attention to the other side of the trenches.

Although they’ve offered him a tender, Jermon Bushrod could still leave New Orleans depending on what happens with the labor negotiations and Jon Stinchcomb is coming off a knee injury.

A top notch offensive tackle like Gabe Carimi, Derrek Sherrod, or Anthony Castonz will still be on the board when they choose, so they’ll definitely take a look. Pass protection woes certainly contributed some to Drew Brees turnover issues in 2010: several of those interceptions and fumbles weren’t exactly his fault since he was often running for his life.
