The official announcement is expected some time Thursday. ESPN is reporting that Haywod has agreed to a five-year deal.
Haywood will replace Dave Wannstedt, who resigned under pressure after six seasons as the head coach of the Panthers. Wannstedt stepped down on December 7, after Pitt turned in a subpar 7-5 season and a BBVA Compass Bowl bid in a year when it could have, maybe should have, won the Big East Conference championship and the accompanying BCS bowl berth.
