According to The Tennessean , the Titans are looking to convert $2.5 million of escalated 2012 salary dollars into a bonus for 2010.

After rushing for more than 2,000 yards in 2009, Johnson expressed his desire for a pay raise, stating he'd out-performed his five-year, $12 million rookie contract.

The terms of his contract only had him scheduled to earn $550,000 for the 2010 season, which is far less than his backup, Alvin Pearman. Pearman is scheduled to make $630,000 going into training camp.
