It's a tough question to answer because the relationship is certainly a reciprocal one that's dependent on both parties pulling their weight.
Neither can be successful without the other. A quarterback can never reach his full potential throwing to subpar pass catchers, while receivers can't thrive if they don't have the right guy to put the ball where it's supposed to be.
When the relationship is working good it means everybody is in sync and moving on the same wavelength.
When things are falling apart, frustration sets in and you'll see receivers pulling up on passes and QBs avoiding certain sides of the field. It's not a pretty sight.
