While I am a stats guru-I used to create fake players and teams, give them random game and season stats, add them up and calculate the averages, and repeat the process until Geometry class was over-I find them rather meaningless when trying to predict the outcome of a certain game.
I would like to tell you where Miami ranks in the NCAA in third-down conversion percentage, but 1) you probably already know or 2) you can google it and get your answer before I finish typing this sentence.
Stats are more important for coaches, as poor numbers in one category may require extra attention during practice.
But stats will not make a receiver catch a ball or a lineman pick up his assignment on a zone-blitz.
